Unfortunately, being able to update the fuel volume several times during a cycle is a separate issue from being able to determine the air volume at a particular point during the compression step. In any event, it is possible to do this using throttle position, but based on my experimental data for an engine with separate cylinder specific plenums, using air pressure to estimate air volume may give more reliable/repeatable results at lower throttle openings where the relationship between throttle opening and air pressure is more logarithmic.
