Ford AU 5.0 crank and cam sensors

Postby otto69 on Wed Jun 18, 2014 12:14 am

Hi
Cant seem to locate a wiring diagram for the Ford AU 5.0 crank and cam mag sensors.
I assume it matters which way they are pined ??
Any help would be much appreciated.
cheers

You need to check with a scope, and ensure you're triggering off the correct edge. So yes polarity with the 2 wire mag sensors is important.

Thanks Stevie
So I just flip a coin and use the ref capture thingy in the manager to check ?

Assuming you are not using factory wiring and have pinouts etc...

Then basically yes. Or test the sensor with an oscilloscope....which ultimately is the same thing really.

Typically with mag sensors you want to use the falling edge, and waveform...ie polarity would need to be correct to accommodate this. The webinar should have explained.

Whether it's classed as flipping a coin, or doing the job correctly and verifying with 100% certainty which is correct...up to you.

Either way doing it this way, ensures it is correct, not an assumption.

Yes, its a complete new harness. I dont have access to an oscilloscope, so will try and use the ref capture in the ecu.
I dont have great internet at home, so can't watch the webinar, but will try else where.
So if its not triggering on the "falling edge"I can just swap the wires around ??
Sorry for the dumb questions, first atempt at EFI....

The webinar will explain.

There will be rising and falling edges on both polarities. But the waveform itself will be different, most noticeably at the missing teeth. Once the polarity is correct, you can select which edge you want to use.

No sense trying to explain, the webinar covers it very well.
