m2r set up for coils help ultimate noob

Postby imi on Sun Feb 09, 2014 3:40 am

the car has already been wired im just trying to clean the wiring up a bit and move the aux outputs around
my problem is
pin 33,34,35, aux 1, aux 2, aux 3,
pin 33 is connected to leading coil
pin 34 is connected to trailing front coil ( brown wire )
pin 35 is connected to trailing rear coil (brown/black)

my problem is on the setup its showing me aux1 e.g. pin 33 is thermo fan ?
i did mess with it a few years ago i may have changed it from coil but i cant seem to find coil on the selection
also aux 2 and aux 3 is showing ignition
by the way car is running but bit rough when revved car wont be moved till this is sorted thanks for your help all

I think what has confused you is you are assuming aux 1 and ign 1 are the same pin. They are not. If you take a look at the M4 ECU wiring diagram you will see Aux 1 is pin #13, but Ign 1 is pin #33.
So you can use aux1 for whatever you like - it is not shared for ignition dutys like aux 2 or 3 are.

ooooooooo myyyyyyyy god lol i was looking at pin 13 thinking it was 33 ok thats that cleard up thanks for that ive been scratching my head for 2 days on this 1 thinking it makes no sence
i was thinking how the fans activating not connected to pin 33 lol but makes perfect sence now

is pin 33 34 35 dedicated for coils then ? and this cant be changed ?

also i want to run a boost solenoid of pin 36 its clear at the moment but the max draw is 0.6amps is that gona be ok to activate the solenoid or shell i move the thero fan from aux 1 to aux 4 and use the solenoid on aux 1

i still cant belive it haaaa seriously thanks

For a two rotor with multiple coils yes these outputs will be tied to ignition.
So you only have aux 1 & 4 left available for other duties.

Most boost solenoids will draw less than 0.6A so you should be able to use Aux4. Check the resistance of the solenoid coil is more than about 25ohms and if so you are ok.

just messured it its 29.4 ohm so 12 / 29.4= 0.40 amp is this correct ?
thanks for your help
this is the best forum by far
cant wait till its all up and going now
will report back if i have any problems
once again thats :)

Your calculation is correct although you should always allow a little extra for the worst case. If you have an alternator then your normal running voltage will be more like 13.8v, so I suggest use a max figure of say 14.2v to be safe...
So I=V/R, = 14.2/29.4 = ~0.5A - which means you are safe.

The "other safe", is knowing whether the in-rush current is higher than the steady-state impedance.
Usually you need a scope or something that measures peak draw.

ive got a scope i was thinking with the air behind the valve would this cause a mini surge like a current demand
guess this would be minimal ?

also i was thinking what is better boost controled by ecu or is it better to get it controled by a after market boost controler ?
