GPA/GPR PACKAGES

I have been looking through the GPR M150 Package and have a number of questions.
Is everyone ready for a major shift in how we do business in the M1 world.

Questions?

1. Are the GPA and GPR packages going to be expanded or worksheets added for many of the following;
i. For a 2nd or 3rd or etc. PDM.
ii. The display devices (input and outputs), C125 etc.
iii. RS232 GPS.
iv. Light Bars
v. Direct wired Lambda, narrow and wideband (would be nice to use all the points on the ECU
A modular approach will permit everyone add and subtract "stuff" as desired.

2. Will we be able to add workbooks and worksheets to the GPA/GPR packagews for additional equipment noted above? I am not suggesting changes to the GPA/GPR workbooks. Can we create additional workbooks/worksheets and add in with the GPA/GPR packages that could in turn be downloaded to the ECU. Would this have to be done in the Build package or could it be done in the Tune package? I would like to use the GPR package and add to the package and add other devices and additional programmed worksheets.

3. Is there going to be any information on using Lambda devices with the M1? I only found a worksheet in the GPR package for CAN Bus Lambda sensor setup, nothing for direct wired, narrow or wideband. I would expect to be able to use all the input and outputs on the M1 ECU as a minimum with this type of base package.

4. The documentation I have been able to find and read does not address windows file extensions for all files. I am assuming we will need to send the GPA/GPR packages back to the Build software to expand or add worksheets and workbooks. The layout of file types and how to move and open the different file types within the software is needed. It is unclear how the file extension types are made, moved, and handled. A flow chart would be very helpful. This software is going to give companies the opportunity to manage a large number of vehicle types. Some guidelines on package and file management and long term file storage is needed.

5. I thought there was some tire monitoring information collected in the GPR package. Went back could not find such. Maybe it was in one of the GPA packages. Anyway, which 3rd party equipment has these (GPA/GPR) packages been tested with? Race Gear has such an aftermarket package.

Forgot one item.

6 Regarding the GPA/GPR packages, a number of inputs and outputs (Coolant Fans, Lambda, fuel pump, additional temp, brake pressure, clutch pressure, etc.) have a limited list of connections points (Can Bus’, ECU points, etc.) listed in the drop down menus. Are we going to see more options related to the Can Bus’, PDM, displays, and other devices. Example; I would like to connect the fans to a PDM and control on/off. Currently only direct connection to the ECU is possible with the GPR package.

Hello Dan

Regarding flexibility of workbooks and worksheets in M1 Tune, you can create your own workspace if you wish and this is tied to the PC rather than the package. You can also copy workbooks and worksheets from the package workspace into your PC workspace. Use the Layout Editor to do this.

Although the M1 has narrow band lambda inputs (unused on GPA and GPR packages), it does not have wideband inputs. All CAN is handled via PLM, LTC or LTCN devices.

Thanks for the short response. I did find some additional information on the Migration function that will also help develop new packages from example and shared workbooks/worksheets.

How about the questions in posts one and two.
I think I am really after a long term strategy of how Motec will support the geneic M1 users with templates, worksheets, workbboks and other software for interconnection of other hardware.

Hello Dan

Sorry, but I don't think I understood you correctly, so I will try and address your points in detail.

Point 1
GPA/GPR support for a 2nd PDM - Not currently planned.
GPA/GPR support for C125 (or other devices) - Already supported. The C125 has M1 receive CAN template in the software. In the GPA/GPR package you can select CAN as an input for most non-critical sensors and switches.
GPA/GPR RS232 GPS - Already supported, just Set the 'GPS Interface' parameter to RS232 Port (obviously this only works with M150 or M190 as M130 and M170 do not have RS232 input.
GPA/GPR light bar support - The SLM is already supported, just go to 'All Calibrate' worksheet to set it up.
GPA/GPR direct wired lambda - Not supported (see point 3) but LTC lambda supported for individual cylinders, banks and collector.

Point 2
Yes, you can add workbooks and worksheets, either to the packages or to your PC based workspace. Just go to the Layout menu and then select Layout Editor. You will need to unlock the package workspace before you can add to it, to do this click on the package name ('GPR (M150)' for example) then the Unlock button. This is all done via M1 Tune, it has nothing to do with the M1 Build software.

Point 3
The M1 ECUs do not support direct wired wideband lambda, you have to use an LTC for this purpose. The M1 can support narrow band lambda sensors, but not with the GPA/GPR packages.

Point 4
I am not sure why you need the windows file extensions as all file handling should be done from within M1 Tune using the proprietary M1 zip format, not via Windows Explorer. If you wish to send a package to someone then you should right click on it and select 'Export File...', then send this *.m1pkg file to the recipient. They will then double click the zip file which will extract the package to the correct folder. All packages have to be in the Package folder in My Documents, you cannot move them into other folders or even sub-folders as M1 Tune will not be able to see them.

Point 5
There are no tyre pressure or temperature monitoring features in the GPA and GPR packages.

Still need to do some work before I have a good handle on adding, deleting, and moving worksheets around.

Regarding the file extension/structure issue. I am working on setting up an area on a server for projects, supporting documents, and files to be stored. Need to make sure I have all need files and related documents properly accounted for. In the past I have lost files when programs and files are tied to specific pc's. Hardware always seems to go down when least expected. Also want to move the program setup from the default location of C:\program files\xxx. The initial instal works fine, but during the update process access to file locations are restricted if the process detects existing Motec programs are installed. I get a "Motec software has been detected on this machine" and the capability of changing the file installation location is blocked. I hope this is removed. Maybe convert it to a warning. It will help file management via server a little more flexible.
