M600 EGT variance on 20B engine

Postby humancyborg on Sun Nov 03, 2013 8:41 am

Hello,

I have an M600 conneted to an N/A 20B 3rotor engine.

It has 6 coils, 3 leading and 3 trailing, and 3 injectors (one per rotor). I am using ignition mode 140, I have the engine set as -3, and am using the instructions from T12.pdf regarding ignition setup - ref/sync mode 2, 12 teeth, CRiP 20, and the appropriate mag level tables. I've checked the timing using the Test Advance screen (pulley has a notch at -5*) and it seems to be dead on.

Engine starts and seems to idle fine, but I have quite varied EGT numbers between the 3 rotors; for example #1 is 700*F, #2 is 1200*F and #3 is 400*F at around 2000rpm. We have checked the injectors and coils, checked for leaks, ITB misalignment, basically all mechanical issues appear to be OK.

I do have several ref/sync errors in the Diagnostics view - ref noise ar, ref noise tr, ref runt and ref low level (as well as on the sync side). I have been experimenting with the filter levels and mag levels after looking at the ref/sync capture but can't seem to get rid of these.

Is it possible that these errors can cause issues leading to the EGT problems above?

Any advice appreciated!

Did manage to get rid of all the errors just now, sometimes still get a Sync Low Level but not often, we also found an ignition wiring issue on rotor #3.

Now #1 is reading around 400*F while #2 and #3 are around 900*F (about right for a rotary). Going to check that the EGT probe in #1 is good on Monday before proceeding.

It was not the probe, thoroughly confused now!

More info; timing appears to be correct, if I set -5* in the test advance with a timing light connected to L1 then I indeed do get -5* on the pulley. If I change L1 or T1 timing, then it is correctly adjusted.

The injector appears to be firing (via a test light), but we seem to have excessive fuel in the chamber. The plugs are soaking wet even though we have replaced them.

Any idea what could cause this as both fuel and ignition 'appear' to be working correctly?

Map attached.
