Nissan water temp sensors. Barometric sensor? M800

I am finalising the build of my Skyline RB26 engine. At this stage it's trivial to change the ecu water temp sender. Should I change it to another type or will an M800 read the stock one with no issues or calibration hassles? Does an M800 have a built in barometric sensor, and if not, do I need one? Thanks.

No, the Motec ECU does not have a built in Baro sensor.

Yes, the Motec ECU should be able to read any normal engine temperature sensor (assuming you have or can generate a calibration for the sensor).

Whether or not you need a Baro sensor depends upon your goals. How wild of an engine build is this. What do you hope to do with it . . . I would say that the majority of engine management systems on the road today do not have a Baro sensor.

OK, thanks for the reply. Very brief resume. All steel 2.6 RB26 engine, on 50 mm throttle bodies, 280 degree 10.8 mm lift cams, stock bore and stroke, Garrett 2860-10 turbos on ported head and ported stock cast iron manifolds. Going in an R33 GTS-t (RWD only) shell for track day fun. Car lives and runs in the UK, so no big altitude changes. Expecting a reliable 600 BHP at a max of 8500 RPM

I priced an OE temp sensor and they were silly money. I can drill / tap the manifold to suit pretty much any 10 mm or less diameter water temp sensor, what's cheap and has known calibration tables, anyone care to suggest something? Thanks.

I would use the Bosch temp sensor listed in the MoTeC catalogue (#55001). They are cheap, reliable and easy to get hold of. The calibration is included in the software too so you don't have to fiddle about doing your own calibration. I would also use one of these sensors for your oil temperature if you are going to use this on the track.

Thanks, ordered M12 x 1.5 water and air temp sensors and connectors, direct screw in fit to the housings. Sorted, and much appreciated. Can live without barometric I guess

I assume that you have a MAP sensor, so yes you should be able to live without a Baro Sensor but if you wanted one you can use a 1 Bar MAP sensor with the pressure port open to atmosphere and configured as a Baro sensor in your input setup.
