M84 zx10 only runs on cylinders 1&2

Postby Shady16 on Mon May 06, 2013 10:04 am

Finally got the bike synced and running but it will only run on cylinders 1&2. Cylinders 3&4 get spark and fuel. But the exhaust tubes will not get any heat in them. And it sounds like it is only running on two cylinders.

Hi Shady16,

Could you please post your configuration file for us to take a look at.
Also a current Ref/Sync Capture. (Not as a screenshot please post the .rsc2 file)

Regards,
Matt.

The firing order on a ZX10 is 1-2-4-3 so is it possible you have wired the injectors and coils incorrectly? This would give the symptoms you describe.

You need to wire in firing order, not cylinder order:

Cylinder 1 - ignition 1 and injector 1
Cylinder 2 - ignition 2 and injector 2
Cylinder 3 - ignition 4 and injector 4
Cylinder 4 - ignition 3 and injector 3

Allan correct me if im wrong,

But also Number 1 is as you sit on the bike is LH side With exhaust to the front Wheel and the cam+crank gear on the right hand side.
(Have to clarify this as the one i did was in a car not in a bike)

so Cylinder numbering is

Left to right 1-2-3-4

As Allan said firing order 1-2-4-3

Cheers
Iain

ps I did one of these in January on an M84 What a great little engine

Correct. Typically, on motorcycle engines, cylinder 1 is at the alternator end of the engine.

I wired the coils and injectors incorrectly. Just as you guys said. I knew the firing order was 1243 but the m84 software asks what the firing order is so i assumed it adjusted this inside the box for the firing order you tell it. I had it wired 1234 and the firing order on the box as 1243. I swapped the coils and injectors and everything is fine now. Thanks for all your responses.

I am know having an issue with the Gear Position Sensor wiring. It is reading the voltage but the values are really low. In the .4 to .1 volts range. This seems really low to me.

How have you wired your gear position sensor?

Assuming it is the same as the Suzuki, then it is a combined neutral switch and gear position sensor. If you connect the two wires of the gear position sensor to an AT input then it should work fine.
