M880 Subaru loom

Postby Robbied on Sun Mar 24, 2013 12:37 am

Hi all,

I have a query regarding wiring of an M880 , I hope you guys can help! I've made a number of both chassis and engine looms (raychem and AS connectors, mil-spec) but this is the first time designing/building one for an M880. This will be for my own track day car...

Can I drive the early subaru coils directly from the M880? If so do I just wire directly to the ignition O/Ps? I'm using the slightly smaller coils circa 1995-1997...

I'm sure I'll have a more questions as I get on with the harness design!!

Thanks,
Robbie

Which Subaru coils ?

most early Subaru's had 2 wire coils which must use an ignitor.

Some Legacy's used 3 pin coils which had internal ignitors. 2001+ Subarus pretty much all have 3 wire internal ignitors.

Easiest thing if you want a coil on plug with built in ignitor is to source some suitable coils.

Or the 99/00 with the coilpack to the side of the intake manifold has internal ignitors.

97/98 with coil pack in centre of intake require an external ignitor

Great info thanks,

I think I'll wire it with the conventional ignitor that way whichever coils i end up using (likely early 2-wire type) I'm covered,

Next question(!), what's the best o/p to use to send an RPM signal into the chassis loom? It will end up at a stack display only for now,

Thanks
