CAN limitation in SDL?

Postby ElectronSpeed on Mon Oct 13, 2008 12:30 pm

I am having a problem getting a CAN template to load into an SDL properly. My current best theory is that the CAN inputs in the SDL are limited to 8 ID "lines" (or rows) in a compound message. Has anyone else run into this?

I have a couple other values that are not coming in as expected as well so any help or documentation on the CAN limitations of the SDL would be appreciated.

I have attached one of the templates that I am trying to use. Delete the .doc extension and replace the _ with a .

thanks,

Yep. Missing is MAP position and Gear (row 9 and 10). Here is a screen shot in ADL versus SDL.

Ok, i have looked at this and there is a maximum of 8 compound messages in one id in an SDL, the ADL2 does not have this restriction as it is a higher level product.

Thanks for the confirmation of my suspicion. I was able to shorten up the template. It should work now.

FWIW, is there a convenient tool for converting *.dbc files to a Motec template?

thanks,

This maybe a stupid question, but what are *.dbc files?

A *.dbc file is a common means of communicating the definition of a software's CAN messages. It is used by all of the automotive OEMs that I have dealt with. The screen shot below is an example of some of the data found in one of these files.

No problems. We will put in a request for a converter to be made, and see how it goes...

thanks for your help..

Also to add to the above ..why dont you try downloading the ACL software and create your own templates as the custom templates are compatibale with the SDL ..
