Discussion and support for MoTeC's previous generation ECUs.

upgrading ecu while locked

Postby QXZ9027MKII on Wed Sep 12, 2012 3:44 am

Hi all,

I am facing an issue in which the m600 I have was tuned at version 3.41 and the tune of course was password protected.

In order to erase the tune I had to downgrade to version 2.3

Now I can tune the car at version 2.3 but I want to upgrade to version 3.53. the ems is asking for a password which is found to be not the same password of the earlier tune that I have erased. Probably a password set by motec.

So the question is how can I solve this issue and upgrade the version to 3.53.
Am stuck right now at version 2.3

Downgrading/upgrading ECUs to get rid of passwords is not something we like very much. Security is not good if it is easily bypassed.

Realistically the ECU needs to come back to MoTeC via your local dealer where we will be able to erase the ECU completely (this includes any tune information). What is the seriaql number of the ECU?

MoTeC do not put any passwords on any of out ECUs, passwords are always entered by the customer.

I bought the M600 locally 1 Year ago as a used part, and i finally assembled my engine and did the wiring so i plugged in the M600 and it had ver 3.41 with password protection, I wanted the newer Ver 3.5, so i took the ECU to the local Tuners with no success, and their suggestion was to send the ECU to Motec or to downgrade it to ver 2.33 if i want to run the car but i will be stuck with Ver 2.33.

Which i didn't favor but after weighing my options i needed to at least hear that engine running smoothly, so i downgraded to ver 2.33 started the car and everything was perfect and i was really happy but i want the 3.5 version since i like its sensor calibration method.

In my country we have 2 dealers, Bin Sulayem Performance which is closed now and Powertec, i sent an email to Powertec and waiting for there response.

Thanks

If the ECU is on 3.4 with a password it is probably passworded on 3.5 as well. The ECU really needs to be sent to the local, approved MoteC dealer so it can be sent back here to be cleared. You will then be able to use the current 3.5 software.

Clearing the password also clears any tuning and setup in the ECU so this will need to be done again.
