M1 and M141

Postby tjr426 on Tue Oct 15, 2024 12:12 pm

Hi, my M141 is not working after an engine move (i.e. worked in one car, but when the same engine swapped into another car, with the same loom, the car wont start).

In my quest to find out possible causes I downloaded the M1 software and connected it to the ECU. The software discovered the ECU, but when I tried to open it, I received this error message "Failure to retrieve ECU data".

I'm running the ethernet cable through a USB-C adapter to the laptop (not sure if this is relevant).

What could possibly be stopping the data being retrieved?

Hi,

Check that the USB-C adapter is IPv6 compatible, most are, but there have been some that only support IPv4 or don't fully support IPv6.

Make sure that the Ethernet wiring into the M1 is correctly pinned, it is possible for the M1 to be discovered, but not have full communications, if the pairs are swapped, especially if the adapter doesn't support auto cross over.
