C1212 Displaying CAN data without DM configuration?

is it possible to use the C1212 with Display Creator enabled to only show channels received via CAN from various devices? i.e. using C1212 as stupid display only, with no need to have a Dash Manager configuration?
I know the possibility of setting up CAN templates in Dash Manager and then display the received channels with Display Creator, but I would like to go the "direct" way. Is this possible? If so, which CAN has to be used? CAN1 or CAN2?
