Overlays/Pop-ups

Postby Anthony on Fri Sep 30, 2022 11:48 pm

Im wanting to implement an overlay/pop-up on channel value changes that can then auto hide.
Similar to the overrides in a non DC config.

Eg target cruise speed - This only needs to be visible when the channel value changes and then disappear, using an overlay would work well as it would apply to all pages.

I can see in DM there is the option for Changed by and Updated under user conditions but in DC the only option is greater than or less than which unfortunately won't work.

I know I can do this in DM and set some flags to trigger the overlay in DC but I'm already pretty well at capacity of transmitted channels to DC so hoping there is another way or something have missed?

Im yet to test but was thinking bit combine could be a way to combine some channels to transmit to DC from DM however not sure if this works or not, any input appreciated.

Have you considered just using Alarms? I use those with Automatically remove after 2 sec. for lots of "status" messages. You have full DM conditions available then.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply, Im currently using Alarms but was trying to pretty things up a little.

I know I can do this by changing the Alarm text style and or colour in DC but I do like the defaults for genuine Alarms...
Im thinking the DM User conditions with is the only option right now.

Hi Anthony,

An example of something I worked on recently is to create 'changed by' user conditions in Dash Manager and then using the output channel of the user condition as the overlay condition in Display Creator.

The example I worked on was a lap time overlay that appeared for 5 seconds upon the update of the lap time channel value.

There are a few specific details to setting this up, you will need to set the user conditions as activate - deactivate with the deactivate condition being the output channel value equal to 1 for 1 second. This allows enough time for the channel value to be transmitted to Display Creator.

Once you have the output channel included in your Display Creator channels you can trigger switch groups or overlays when this channel value is equal to 1.

If you want to upload your Display Creator project and Dash config I can take a look, otherwise email support@motec.com.au
