Reference Lap Questions

Hey guys, so i'm just wanting a little bit of info regarding the "reference lap".

So say for example i go to Queensland Raceway and do a 1:14.578, this time now becomes my reference lap time as its my fastest ever lap time at that circuit.

Then for qualifying the next day its wet, so i clear the reference lap, so ill now be able to see my fastest time in the wet.

Because i've cleared my reference time off 1:14.578 o taje it that if i want to see this time on my dash again ill have to set it as my reference lap time in dash manager?

But ive noticed that if i set this time in dash manager, if i go to a different venue the next day, say Morgan Park Raceway, the reference lap i set in dash manager for Queensland Raceway is still showing on my dash.

Is there a way so that i can have my fastest ever lap time showing on my dash for each venue, so say i change the venue to queensland raceway and my reference lap time on the dash shows my fastest ever lap there, and then the same when i change the venue to morgan park, it then shows my fastest ever lap at morgan park, or do i have to manually select the reference lap each time in dash manager.

Cheers
Ben

My prep list always includes loading the desired reference lap using the Dash Manager. I will typically choose one with similar weather conditions.

Hi Ben,

Do you have a 'Best Lap Time' set in the Venue details?

Stephen, yes mate i've got best laps set for both venues.

Also, am i correct in thinking:

"Fastest lap" is the best lap time set in venue details, does this time stay on the dash until i manually change it in venue details?

"lap Time" is basically last lap time and will change each time i go past the beacon or gps??

"Reference Lap" is the fastest lap of the day so far, and each time i will go faster it will update. does this stay on the dash until i click "clear reference lap time"?

Thanks
Ben

Stephen,

So i've added the fastest lap time to my display creator page. and now on the dash as my fastest lap it says 1:14.57, which is the fastest ever lap i have done round Queensland Raceway.

But ive noticed that if i switch the venue to say phillip island or morgan park, this time of 1:14.57 stays on the dash, it doesn't change. I've tried playing around and changing the "best lap" times in dash manager but this does nothing?

Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,

The 'Best Lap' in the venue editor does not actually define a Fastest Lap Time in your config. This is all covered in the help.

The best lap time is a hangover feature from our older monochrome dashes. On our older ADL2 and 3 dashes, where onboard memory was at much more of a premium, this parameter was used to calculate how much memory to keep free for lap gain/loss calculations. Setting this value too low can impact the lap gain loss calculation functionality. It is the "best lap time" hence the "fastest lap time" doesn't change with it.

Fastest lap can only be updated by completing a lap (by passing your beacon) faster than the stored fastest lap. When tracks are changed, the lap time reset function should be used, particularly if travelling to a longer track.

The reference lap is probably what you want to be using for what your trying to do. If you generate a reference lap for each track from your logged data (by opening a log file in i2, selecting your fastest/most relevant lap and selecting File > Create Reference Lap... and loading it in dash manager) This will show on the dash as your reference lap and be used in the lap gain/loss calculation system. The dash can be set to automatically set a new reference lap when a faster lap is completed.
