Question on AV inputs

I have a C127 and have read the user manual but would like some clarification on how to wire up the following:

a input switch to 0v momentary off/on
a input switch to 12v continues off/on

I may have to use a AV input for these, I read that using a 1000 ohm resistor from 5v to the input pin might be needed. Can someone please clarify how to install these 2 types on a AV if possible.

Thanks

To use an AV as a switch add a 4.7k “pull down” or”pull up” resistor. The up/down depends on what voltage you want when the switch on on. And you should be using 5v not 12v for these. Following link shows how to wire it up.

Ok perfect, that clears it up for me for the switch to ground. The other input is for a high beam input that has 12v when high beams are on. Can this be used or does the input have to be under 5v? Can I wire this one up as a pull down?

Some pins handle 0-5v, others 0-15v. If you look under “input Characteristics” in the user manual you will see which pins can handle which voltage range for your specific dash. The option is to use a relay (If you’ve already used up the 0-15v pins).

Alright then a relay it is fot that input. Thanks!

Actually i see that av inputs 5-6 are good to 15v so can i use one of those with a pull down resistor to ground and i should be good with the high beams input that switches to 12v????

Av inputs 1-4 are good to 5.46v only...thats weird because the one c127 manual did not say this about av inputs 5-6. I redownloaded the manual on my other computer and this additional info was listed so there must be a update.

Depends on how many amps. If you are trying to sink all the amps from the high beams thru the dash, that would be really bad. If you are just trying to monitor if the high beams are on or not, then it should work fine I belive.

Yes, all i am doing is using the input to turn on a dash indicator. Thank you for replying and all the help!

Just a follow up...i received my dash and did the pull up resistor set up and it works perfect. This way i can use my av inputs and free up the digital and speed inputs. Thanks everyone for the help!
