non-numerical values

Hi, I'm a first-time user of motec gear, I'm currently installing a C127, a 5x3 keypad, a PDM15 and a PDM30 into a custom build involving a GM LSX. I'm trying to avoid any fuses or relays in the vehicle so I've replaced the stock engine loom fuse+relay panel with the PDM15, and the PDM30 runs everything in the body.
I've pretty much got it all working as I want, with the two PDMs talking via canbus, and the dash displaying engine data (from a GM Performance ECM) along with some PDM-generated channels.
One thing I'd like to do is to display non-numerical info on the dash... for example, I've got two hydraulic clutches to engage front and rear drive (within custom transfer cases,) operated by two buttons on the keypad. I've got two channels showing on the dash labelled FWD and RWD, which as expected appear as normal labels with a 1 or 0 underneath. Even if I choose Active/Inactive, On/Off, No/Yes etc in the Units menu, the value is still 1 or 0. Ideally there'd be a blank space until the channel is active, and then "FWD" and/or "RWD" would appear, but even a value of "active" or "inactive" would be better than 1 and 0.
Can this be done in the dash manager or do I need to delve into Display Creator?
thanks for any tips.
