V2 Camera Sync Problems

Postby rac70 on Wed Sep 27, 2023 9:34 am

Read through the forums and have tried a few things and I am still not having any luck syncing my V2 video with logged files on the Motec C185.

I've tried the following:
In C185 Dash Manager
- Sync Messages box is checked and tried each CAN bus.
- V2 Communications Receive and Transmit Channels Loaded.
- V2 Diag shown on the display and verified to be working properly

In I2 Pro:
- Tried adding video with and without overlays.
- Tried locking and unlocking Sync. It always assumes the start of logging is the start of the video. (I have the video camera set to turn on and start recording when the display is on. Logging is set up to a switch.)
- Turned on "Show Video Sync Points". No blue tick marks are shown.

I am not sure what else to try at this point. I haven't figured out a way to make the camera start recording when I start a data log either, but this would likely solve the problem.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

If conditional recording isn't working then it sounds like the V2 isn't receving CAN data.

In the recorded videos are the overlay graphics working based on the CAN data being transmitted by the dash?

Do you know which firmware version the V2 is running?

In the C185 what do the V2 Diag, V2 Version and V2 CAN Version channels report?

Hi,

Am I right in my understanding that you are manually adding the videos to the video pane?

This method is intended for manual sync only, or in cases where there are no video sync pulses embedded in the audio track.

Go to Tools > Options, then the Video tab, and add the folder to the video search folder. This is the only way to direct I2 to process the video for sync pulses and add it to the database.

Once the video files are processed, ensure the Video properties is set to V2 Camera Number 0, and not user defined.

You can also then go to the time graph, Properties > Display, and tick on the show Video Sync points if you want to check where the sync points have been detected.

I tried some benchtop testing and will do some in car testing too. Here is what I found:

- Overlay graphics are working properly after changing the channels to the ones configured for my GPS/accelerometer setup. I don't currently have OBD2 comms working.

- Firmware was 1.24. Updated to 1.26 and am having the same problems.

- V2 diag starts at 0 then quickly flashes 1-2-3 and goes back to 0 once the camera is recording

- V2 Version and V2 CAN Version only show 0.

- I have been adding the videos wrong. Adding them correctly and going to Video Camera 1 (No Camera 0 Option)
seems to be trying to automatically align the videos.
- No Video Sync Points are showing up.
- I also tried loading in new unmodified versions of the V2 Receive and V2 Transmit Comms setups with no change.

- If I click outside the video window in I2 I have to add the video back in for it to show up again. Is this normal?

Thanks for the quick responses. I will update after some more in-car testing.

What version and variant of i2 are you running?

Many answers depend on the version and variant you are using.

There was a change made to the CAN data transmitted by the V2 so if you are using the latest firmware you will need the attached CAN comms template to suit.

Updating to the new CAN comms Receive template worked!
One issue is the processing time. The videos (~15 minutes) are taking upwards of an hour to process within I2 before syncing properly.

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I haven't found any posts with a similar issue:

If am using an external GPS receiver for my Speed and acceleration, and have not been able to get them to show the correct speed on the video overlay. it is always far to high or far too low.

Currently, my Speed is transmitted to the C185 in cm/s, which I convert to kmh and display as mph. Here is the current setup that works:

In the V2 Transmit Template I have changed the Vehicle Speed Channel to my GPS Speed Channel. However, I can't get the unit conversion to work no matter what I have tried or what provided overlay template I have used. Currently I am using the "race-medium-imperial" overlay template.

Here is the current setup which is meant to convert directly from cm/s to mph ( 1 cm/s = 0.0223694 mph) for the V2 overlay. The output is about 25 mph too low:

Any help/thoughts is appreciated as always. This forum has been very helpful.
