L180 logging throughput?

Postby leisurehound on Mon Jun 28, 2021 2:10 pm

Yes, I realize that the L180 is not a color display, but I surmise its a C185 without the display comparing specs and there is no enclosed logger forum...

I see in the specs that the L180 can log up to 1000 samples/sec which I think is for each analog channel, but is there an upper limit of aggregate logging rate across the 4 can busses and the analog/digital/temperature inputs? I currently use another manufacturers data logger and its getting overwhelmed at about 2khz aggregate across 2 can buses and 7 analog channels, the internal IMU/GPS, etc and there are gaps in data apparent as the device's threads must be getting blocked/delayed. Am thus looking to upgrade to a more capable system before I add any more sensors I have in the works.

Is there a rough rule of thumb for the L180 of what logging rate it can sustain?

The maximum logging rate that is guaranteed not to have any dropouts is 40,000 samples/s. It doesn't matter what the source is, (CAN, Physical Input or Internal Channel) the 40k is spread across all logged channels.

You will find that you can actually push the Dash a lot harder than that, but there is the possibility of losing samples above that rate so is not recommended.
