M1 Build v1.4 and v1.4.1

Postby David Ferguson on Tue Feb 25, 2020 5:15 am

It looks like the upgrade to M1 Build 1.4.1 is going to be a one-way trip, since the project format is changing, and the ECUs will need updated Development licenses to work with this version of M1 Build.

The release notes advise not installing unless ECU licenses are to be updated...

I have several M1 Development licenses on various customer ECUs that I maintain. Will I be able to have both v1.4 and v1.4.1 installed at the same time, or do I need to keep them on separate machines?

What are the main benefits of 1.4.1? I see the following, but would like to learn more details:
- DBC import - will it create code for receiving or transmitting?
- Improved Validation / Compile performance - how much faster?
- Single click within dropdowns to select items - what is an example?

Thanks in advance...

Any updates on this?

I have a customer inquiring about a new development license, and I need to advise him if 1.4.1 will be recommended (he is intending a lot of CAN integration, so I would think the DBC feature would be useful), or we should use 1.4 for now and upgrade in the future. Since I will need to support him (and I have several 1.4.0 projects / ECUs) -- can I install 1.4.1 and 1.4.0 simultaneously?

Hi David,

Just go straight to 1.4.1 if they do not already have a M1 Build Licence, there is no downside to doing this.

You can have 1.4.0 and 1.4.1 installed concurrently but as soon as you open a project in 1.4.1 you cannot go back to 1.4.0.

How do I install 1.4.1 beta? The installer wants to uninstall 1.4 first.

Any update from Motec on this please?
It wants to uninstall old versions before installing latest.

David, did you figure this out? I've come across the same issue, which is preventing me from testing out Build 1.4.1

I hoped that wasn't going to be the answer! Oh well.

When you install v1.4.1 M1 Build part of the process is that v1.4.0 is uninstalled. If you need to go back to using v1.4.0 then just re-install this version and carry on as before.

This is how I work. Most projects are now on v1.4.1 but when I need to work on an older project I just install v1.4.0 and do what needs to be done, before upgrading back to v1.4.1.
