setting the scale on traction ride height sensor

For the life of me i cannot figure out how to set the scale on the "vehicle ride height front sensor scale". I have read the "help" section associated with the "vehicle ride height front sensor scale" but still can't figure it out. The sensor is 8.25" from the ground and should read up to 5" higher than that, if that helps.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Hi,

What sensor are you using?

Hello Stephen, I am using the Banner sensor, model Q4XTULAF500-Q8. I lowered the front of the bike over the winter months. The sensor has been on the bike for several years and worked great pulling timing on wheelies and now that the bike is lower, i cant seem to figure out how to get the proper scale setup in Motec. I have attach the package i am using in the bike if that will help. Thanks for your help, Stephen.

Hi,

To relearn the sensor range with the sensor, the data sheet available at this link explains the process.

I would need to have the M1 Package to see what needs to be done in the Package, though if the sensor is recalibrated from the instructions, there may not be a need to change any settings in the M1, depending on the signal exported from the sensor.

The file that you attached is the .ldx file, this contains the changes made to the .ld file, the .ld file is the actual logfile. To export the M1 Package, open the Package in M1 Tune, go to File | Export As... and follow the prompts. This exports the complete Package.

Hello Stephen, Thanks for the quick reply. Attached is the package. Thanks again for the help.
If you need anything else, please let me know.

Hi,

From looking at the setup, you should be able to reset the zero point by using the Offset Q function, leaving the scale alone. The Scale sets the angle of the graph, so this will not change when changing the ride height as it will remain at -177.8mm/V for the signal, the Offset sets the Voltage that the zero position is at.

Hello Stephen. So i can just power the bike up, leave the scale at -7.0, and with the front tire on the ground, just press the 'Q' button and that should be correct to pull the timing shown in the "vehicle ride height front sensor scale".

thanks again for all your help.

Hi,

The Q function in the Vehicle Ride Height Front Sensor Offset should only change the Offset value, and not the Scale. The Scale is the slope of the sensor translation table. If it was drawn as a table, your X axis would be Volts, and the Y axis would be distance, what the Scale is showing is that for every 177.8mm of travel, the Voltage read by the Sensor Resource will change by 1 Volt.

If we assume that 0.5V is full extension and 4.5V is full compression, then the current Voltage reading of 3.226V has the sensor reading 246.08mm of compression, if you lower the front of the bike by another 50mm, then the Voltage set in the Offset should be around 2.84V in the neutral position.
