HPFP Output diagnostic problems

Postby Dalaracing on Fri Mar 25, 2022 7:49 pm

Hi
We have a problem with the output of HPFP that does not start. Firs its in "wait" then gose in "start" all the time and does not build any high pressure. We got the car to go with 100% fuel trim at low pressure only. So the car goes but the output of the solenoid does not start the pump. Seems to be tied to package or some setting. We have changed everything mechanically and tried several different folders. Can the package be changed during firmware upgrades? The car has worked all last season and now that we were about to start it, this problem arose. Can you have any ideas on what we can move forward with? Right now it is difficult when we do not know why the outcome does not change from start to ok. Should add that we have no other faults and the output gives 12v.

So the "wait" diagnostic is because it is waiting for cycle lock so it can work out the cam position, and 'start' occurs cycle lock is achieved, and the first pulse can start, but it will stay in 'start' if it can't correctly locate the cam position. In your case, I would start by checking for inlet cam bank 1 diagnostic errors and depending on what errors are getting reported, review your ref sync, and cam position sensor settings and signals by completing an input capture. if it is taking a while to sync up and your fuel pressure direct minimum value is set higher than you low pressure from the pump, it to cause a diagnostic (minimum) that will suspend pump operation.

If the engine was removed and freshened up in the off season, anything is possible from the timing being out of spec (causing a bad pitch error on the ref sync), a sensor unplugged or damaged, a tooth damaged on for the camshaft, or even a sensor not reading the trigger wheels correctly due to excessive machining.

I see you have cam lobe pitch circled. If this is set to 0 degrees, it will calculate it automatically based off the number of cam lobes specified.

Thanks NathanB for reply.

We found the problem. it was a bad firmware version.

Yes,

We did not discover that the system version 94 had a bug with the HPFP until the Monday morning, at which point it was removed from MoTeC Online.

Glad you were able to get everything resolved.
