No cam position sensor

Postby Shivshankar on Sat Oct 05, 2019 1:14 pm

Hi everyone,

I am from a Formula SAE team. We have a Yamaha YZ450F engine. It does not have a cam position sensor.

May I find out if I will still be able to run the engine with the M150? How can i set up the ref sync without a cam position?

Thank you

Hi,

There are two ways that people have run these engines with the M1 ECU's.

The first is that they machine the cam cover and add a hall effect sensor that reads one of the lobes of the camshaft as the synchronisation signal, and the other is to use the voltage signal from the MAP sensor as the trigger. Using this method you also use the Engine Synchronisation Ignore Mode to stop using the signal once the engine is running and is in Cycle Lock. This is because the signal will get noisy as the engine speeds come up.
