2 group ecu temp sensor calibration

Postby terryo on Sat Jul 13, 2013 2:02 pm

I cannot find any specs on the correct temp sensor to work with a 2Group ECU, nor can i find any way with the hand-controller to calibrate a sensor.

this engine package appears to have been using a stock Toyota/Denso water temp sensor for years, but the hand controller tells me the ET is 80C when its more like 25C. I suspect this is the reason why its such a pig to start as the cold-start functions dont work????

can anyone assist?

thank you

The correct sensor to use is the Bosch 023 or 026.

Terryo,
In my experience most of the Toyota ECT sensors have a similar resistance curve to the bosch 023/026's so they normally work ok. Disconnect the sensor and measure it's resistance, at room temp (~20°C) it should be about 2500ohms. If yours has much lower resistance then you can assume it is the sensor that is your problem. If however your resistance is close then it's more likely a wiring problem

thanks guys, this is enough for me to sort it out.

the denso temp sensors have a huge number of variations, from just a few ohms to just over 2500 ohms at 20C. the most common denso ECU sensor in the 1980's-90's period is 2000-2300 ohms @ 20C. As suggested, this is close enough to the bosch one which is listed as 2100-2900 ohms @ 20C.

On a similar front, i'm trying to find a sensor for a Denso (race TRD) temp gauge. it needs a resistance of around 40 ohms @ 20C. This resistance is found in some Denso sensors but the only ones I can find use a flat washer seal, and are physically too big for where it needs to fit in this engine. on this engine the factory sender has a M12 thread and seals on a ledge at the bottom of the thread. I could adapt a 1/8NPT or M8-M10

again, any help/leads appreciated
