will this still breathe life...

Postby feral4mr2 on Wed May 29, 2013 11:06 pm

hello, new to the forum. have had a browse through and found this section on old ecu's.

can anyone tell me if this old girl still has any use? also where i might be lucky enough to find a wiring diagram for it and if it needs a laptop of hand controler to set?

the engine it came running off is the same engine it would be going onto, the mighty toyota 4age!

thanks.

Hello,

You have a 2 Group Ecu with software of version 4.1 or better, which is a great thing, because Motec still lists software for that version 4 here:

http://www.motec.com/software/oldreleases/

Also, I have the manual for a 3D, not a 2D, but I think they are very similar. I haven't seen the manual elsewhere on here, so PM me your email and I can send it.

The datasheets/ wiring diagrams can be found here for 2 group :

http://www.motec.com/downloads/downloaddatasheets/

Looking for the DIY clock adapter for the PC that You have to use with a Motec 63003 cable also on the motec site.... can't find it now, but I have a PDF of this from Motec that I can send also.

I have a CEM3D V4.1 that I should have up and running with the DIY Clock adapter box up for sale soon

These are real good, simple workhorse computers and seems that they were used very extensively until someone lost or broke the adapter and the handheld tuner, then they were treated like misfit toys......

thanks for your reply. pm sent.

i downloaded the wiring diagram and software file. software file wont run on my laptop as it's windows 7. i guess with the age of the ECU i'll need a early windows 98 or something for it to run?

also has anyone managed to use say a old microtech hand controler on these? i've a couple of them laying around. would be good to be able to work out how to get it going with one of them.

cheers.

I mentioned this in an email to You, but, I wanted to make sure the rest of the Forum sees this as there seems to be a lot of these older 2 Group ECU's out there still.

1. You must have a laptop with an RS-232 Serial Port on the back, You can't use a USB to Serial Adapter

2. My old laptop that I bought for this purpose of tuning is running XP Pro with Service Pack operating system and it works very well with the software 2 Group V4 that I am running on it now. I have been playing around with the functions and the tables/graphs and learning it.

3. I will hopefully be able to verify that the Clock generator works, as designed by Motec within a week or so, with a minor change that I can't remember that allowed the circuit to complete for the 5V+ supply of power.

4. You must have a Motec PCI cable to interface from your laptop to the Clock generator/adapter (like Motec 63003)

Hope this helps some of Y'all out there.
