I have the Toyota 86 package and its great.

One question though, is it possible to have the factory gear indicator in the dash to still show what gear your in?

It shows when I put the car in reverse [R] but does not show [1-6]. I have set it to gear indicator ON but it doesn't seem to work.

Any help would be most greatful.

Hi,

Can you let me know which model year you have?

Hi,

The gear position display function in the dash cluster operates independently of the ECU.

The dash cluster will calculate the current gear based on engine speed and ground speed.

The gearbox has a switch for reverse so this indicator will appear immediately if the gear has been selected as opposed to the calculated gear display which requires the car to be driven for the calculation to take place.

Have you tested driving the car to see if the gear position indicator appears?

yes, thats when I noticed that the gear indicator wasn't showing what gear I was in. I then double checked to make sure it was activated but still no show.
It was working fine up until I changed over from the factory ECU to the Motec.

So I take it that no-one has come across this issue and therefore no explanation as to why this has stopped working since I have changed from the factory ecu to the motec.

Another issue I noticed today,

Since changing to motec, the fuel gauge seems to be incorrect.

I don't know why this would be related but today, my fuel light was on so I went and filled the fuel tank and it only took 31 litres to fill. It used to be about 42 litres from when the fuel light came on.

Should this have been affected when changing to motec or is this just coincidental?

Thanks in advance.

The Toyota 86 projects I've worked on needed the fuel scaling set correctly (ie, calibrated based on actual usage). Those were LS swaps, but I'm sure the process applies to the standard car as well.

thanks that could explain it. I have changed my port injectors to id1050's from stock.
Car is supercharged and on stock injectors it was all fine but now its not.

Next question, how would I go about recalibrating it?

In M1 Tune, go to Initial Setup->Toyota 86 tab. In the Calibrate Pane, change the Fuel Flow Scale.

I think we used a process like this:
Filled the tank, ran the car to a calibrated tick (1/2 to 3/4) on the fuel gauge, then filled the tank noting the amount of fuel it actually required. We adjusted the scale based on the error. So if the gauge indicated 4 gallons were used, but we only needed 3 to top it up, then we multiplied the scale value by 3/4. We repeated this with on-track sessions where we were using quite a bit of fuel all at once. The owner kept track at every fill-up and we eventually got it pretty good.

I don't know if your package uses the fuel tank level sensor for initial reading, but since you know it's reading about 42/31 too high, I would multiple the Fuel Flow Scale parameter by 31/42 (=0.738) as a starting point.
