M880 to Garw Dash - CAN help

Hi all, wondering if someone could help?

This is for those who know far more than I regarding CAN ID addresses and getting 2 devices to talk to each other, well more one to talk the other to listen

ECU to Dash

I have a Motec ECU and trying to see if I can get it to work with a Garw IC7 dash.

I can program the Motec to send customs data sets over CAN but I’m unsure of the structure, CRC, compound, sequential, etc and then how to assign these correctly in the Garw dash.

The Garw dash can definitely receive a Can from ecus although can speed is selectable in dash. I seem to have got an scrambled data to the dash.

What I need to know if someone fancies helping me is;

How do I find out what channels/IDs are what from the Motec, and then I can hopefully assign these in the Garw dash.

I have the Motec CAN inspector so can see the CAN data but feel it’s like needle in a haystack unless I know where to look

Ask your MoTeC dealer to share with you DTN0019, that has the info you want.

You will need to configure the channels you want to send as either compound or sequential messages. Use this info to configure your dash.

Hi,

There doesn't seem to be a lot of information available about these displays on the net, so I cannot look at how they are expecting the CAN to be done. Does Garv have an existing template for the M800?

Unfortunately information about the dash in very very limited.

It was a prototype / limit run display and is no longer supported.

It can run CAN comms to an Emerald ECU and a hondata ecu aswell as all lotus standard ecus. Not much help I know.

The issue with the CAN Data out of the M800 is that it isn't formatted in the normal CAN format, it actually is closer to a serial data stream.

If you look at the M800 receive template in one of our Dash Managers, and then compare it to the M1 templates, you will see a quite apparent difference in the addressing and offsets in the two templates.

A number of devices either require having the manufacturer write a specific receive template for the device, or cannot receive the data.

Hi Stephen,

This was my fear initially when purchasing the dash. It was rather a "punt" of it may work if it works with a few other ECU's

There isnt a hope in hell of getting the dash designer to reprogram the Dash, although there is an online community who has reverse engineered the software for access, but i think this is more for layout design rather than Comms/CAN configs.

I guess i may have to accept the fact its not going to work and buy another dash.

I know you can change message address and "i think" what part of the message to read.

In advanced view custom configurations are possible for all data channels
Additional pages are accessible once in advanced view for the following
functions
1. Manual configuration of data channels by mapping input feeds to data
channels with custom scaling and offset
2. Mapping of inputs to tell tales and warning lamps
3. Odometer correction
4. Custom sensor calibration
