SDL Compatability With Older Factory ECUs

Can the SLD3 (or for that matter the SDL) be made to get data from early Bosch ECUs ? The ECU I am thinking about is used on the E30 BMWs (325i to be specific) circa 1987. I doubt this is the case but it would obviously make life much easier.

Thank You

We havent written templates for this car, and I dont really know what your options are.

Cars of that age probably dont have OBDII, probably dont have any level of CAN bus.

your only option is the possibility of an RS232 output.

this is also unlikely on a Factory ECU.

I would suggest that your options are to replace the ECU with one that does have Comms, or to duplicate the engine sensors, and wire them directly into the dash..

Jamie

You mention OBDII, can it be done with OBDII as i have an XR8 falcon(2000) and i'm looking at the CAN bus from the ABS module. Once the factory ECU is fully removed, i lose TC and any diagnostics. Can it be connected to the M800 CAN bus?

The M800 can only receive channels via CAN in specific formats so it maybe possible however MoTeC would need the CAN protocol used by the other devices on your car to confirm this.
