Suitable wheelspeed sensors

Postby EVO2 on Mon Jul 21, 2025 10:30 pm

I'm in the process of purchasing all the sensors for my M150 install.

Can someone tell me if these wheel speed sensors would be suitable?

Also, i presume as they are 10-30v input. I would need to supply a seperate +12v feed, but would the gnd wire for the sensor, still need to go to the motec sensor gnd?

Many Thanks

Normally we use NPN type (instead of the PNP you've shown) since this will switch to ground, and make the pullup active on the input pin. You can use either battery negative or 0V for the ground.

Thank you for that David. ive found the equivalent NPN sensor https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/proximity-sensors/2093359?gb=s

Would a NO or NC sensor be required?

That is basically the same specs as what we supply for wheelspeed sensors with a variety of data systems.

I would use Normally Open (NO) - so that no trigger leaves the signal floating, but using a NC -type will just invert the detection of the trigger teeth. For most wheelspeed applications it won't make a difference.
