DBW throttle pedal over CAN?

Hi all
I think I already know the answer but is it OK to transmit throttle pedal position over CAN and what would be the minimum acceptable transmission rate?

The reason I am asking is I am not totally happy with my current method (a "frequency" based sensor), I have run out of AV inputs and am considering adding a normal analogue sensor to either a dash, E888 or similar and then sending over CAN.

Hi,

It is obviously not ideal for a safety related item to be on CAN where possible. Can two of the other AV's for something else be moved over to the E888 instead? For instance oil or fuel pressure?

Outside of that, you will need the pedal position to be updated at 200hz to minimise any abnormal behaviour.

Thanks NathanB

Good idea on moving less critical sensors on to CAN. This would mean the throttle pedal sensor would be on the end of a 2.5 metre run of wire. Does that sound OK? I guess as any voltage loss would be constant, EMI aside, it would probably be OK.

A lot of cars have a longer run than that and work without issues.

Thanks all, I'll keep an eye on my current setup and see if I get weird changes again.
