Newbie, please be kind - Sync lock issue M130

Postby justineurope on Tue Jan 23, 2024 7:25 pm

Hi Motec world, I'll preface my question by saying I'm a newbie, I have done a fruitless search, but my terminology as a newbie may limit a search efficacy. I'm also broke so paying for the answer is not an option. Im in SA Australia

I've got an M130 on a Suzuki M series engine with VVT. Wiring appears to be working as a trace of a cranking process appears to show the tooth patterns expected (Mazda Mx5 2006, which is what the engine speed reference mode is set too) While cranking I get pattern lock but never achieve cycle lock and as such neither the injectors or spark fire (an ignition test proves the wiring will trigger a spark on the correct cylinder as does an injector test.) the Engine speed reference Offset has been confirmed by two other sources, 1 running a similar engine (different ecu brand) and the Shhh... Haltech site (sorry)

I would like to get the thing close to or actually idling before engaging a tuner (read I'm broke) (plus I hate to be beaten).

Im assuming its a simple tick box badly ticked or incorrectly entered value somewhere but the Motec is not simple, but I feel I may be!

Any advice greatly accepted.

Id also post snips of the M1 tune pages and the trace if I could work out how to on this forum. Advice also sought if it helps.

Please help. JP

Hi,

Can you do a Input Capture and post it and the Package file (use the Export function for both). Logging of the engine cranking with the txt file that is generated would also assist. With the logging, if you can clear the existing logging out before you attempt to start the engine so that the file only shows the cranking attempt makes it easier.

Hi,

Screen captures do not help, you will need to provide the information requested to allow for us to assist you. Otherwise, the MoTeC Dealer that sold the hardware to you should also be providing assistance in getting your engine running.

Hi Stephen,
thanks for the help, screen capture was a mate not me, thanks Simon!
Here is What I think are what you need. input capture export (archive) and the Package export (Archive)

I believe I cleared all logged data before creating the new one.
As for a TXT file, how or where is this created or where can I learn how to create it.

Hope this is what you asked for an need.

Cheers

Hi,

Can you download this file and extract it by double clicking on it.

Once you have done this, can you then connect to the M1 using M1 Tune and go to File | Override ECU System Version... and select System 01.04.00.0093 from the drop down list. When you click OK, you will be prompted to Save the changes and then resend the Package into the ECU, do this by clicking on the Send icon.

Try starting the engine again, and see if the issue remains.

I have also migrated your Package to the latest version and included the latest license file for your M1. I have changed some of the settings to suit your vehicle.

Thanks Stephen, I still only have pattern lock, not achieving sync. What did you change?

Cheers

Hi,

Where is the Camshaft Position sensor wired into? Universal Digital 2 or Universal Digital Input 4? If I disable the Engine Synchronisation Resource (UDig 2) in your Package, and run the Cam Position signal into UDig 4, I get Cycle Lock. Can you disable the Engine Sync Resource by going into Tools \ Edit Input/Output Resources... and setting the Engine Syn Resource to Not in Use. This will require the M1 to be restarted to effect the change. If this still doesn't get Cycle Lock, can you do another Input Capture, ensuring that UDig 4 is also captured.

Hi again,

Camshaft position was wired and assigned to UDig 2. Udig 4 piggybacks this signal and is assigned (hopefully) to VVT position sensing.
I have attached the capture with Udig 2 disabled and UDig 4 on (inlet Camshaft Bank 1 position [V]

I have assigned Udig 2 to the Inlet Cam Bank 1 Resource in this Package, the signal should not be split so remove the wire into Udig 4. This Reference Mode does not need a Sync input allocated as it uses the Inlet Cam Position for Synchronisation.
