I have acquired an M150 GPR package, as an upgrade from my M800.
But, when I now try to position sensors (and outputs) I can't connect them all.
The ones I have problems/concerns about are:
Oil temp in and out of cooler (one is a given of course)
Water temp in and out of cooler (one is a given of course)
Charge air temp before and after charge air cooler (water to air cooler)
Water temperature before and after water cooler for the intercooler
Engine compartment temperature
Control of ventilation fan (for engine compartment), based on engine compartment temp (after engine shutdown)

I thought I could use any of the analog voltage and temp inputs available, and name them as I pleased (which I could do with the M800), but that's not possible with the M150 GPR system - or have I misunderstood something?

From the description of GPR on the website:
"ECU Input and Output pin allocations can be user-defined to suit individual requirements"
That's not quite right, is it?

It means you can choose a resource for each pre-defined sensor object. This is where M1 Build comes to the rescue allowing you to define all the sensor objects you want to have and how they are used.

When I read the information here (https://www.motec.com.au/gpr-m1/gpr-m1-ov/:

I can't see or read anywhere that the M1 Build is necessary to do this.
It is almost on the verge of false (at least incorrect/substandard) information.
Again, it could be done in the M800 but not in the M150 GPR - definitely a step back in my eyes.

It sounds like your MoTeC dealer did not help you identify what firmware would be needed to meet your requirements. Perhaps another firmware package would be more suited to your application -- go back to your dealer to work this out.

No, the blame is all on me.
The only thing I did was to count the number of inputs (ana voltage & temp) to cover my sensors.
M130 didn't had enough, so that's why it I choose M150.
Never realized that would received an upgraded M84.

Your requests do not sound all that difficult to implement. What is your application (engine, car/boat/plane, racing or non-race use).

We could create a custom package based on the GPA or GPR, that adds the channels you wish to have, and could even make those diagnostic channels so that level 2 logging would not be needed to record them a lower sample rates. It would be possible to "trade in" your GPR firmware for your 'locked to one engine" custom firmware package, for a very reasonable cost.

Here is the fine print (downside): We may not be able to start with the latest GPR package (probably 1.10.002), so more recently added functions like keypad support, LIN support for Bosch wipers, ITB tuning method using MAP estimate table for VE, and future MoTeC updates are not freely supported. Might be able to negotiate better starting version, haven't asked recently.

Thank you for your suggestion.
But me being who I am (moaning bastard...) I want full control of my systems so I'll see if I can get around this somehow.
Maybe an M1 Build by myself , alternatively return the ECU to instead choose a competing, more open system.
