Hi guys,

Quite new to Motec, loving it so far!
Just wondering if there is a wireless module available to connect wirelessly to the ECU? Did some googling on an old topic but couldn’t find a lot.

Cheers

Scott

Hi Scott,

The M1 does not have WIFi internally, there have been people who have connected WiFi routers to the M1 and connected to the M1 that way with varying levels of success. You need to have a WiFi router that will allow for IPv6 discovery messages to be transferred bidirectionally for the M1 to be discovered correctly by M1 Tune.

I use this router.

https://teltonika-networks.com/product/rut230/

It works really well with only the ecu connected. When i have both my dash and ecu, it works fine also but only with one connected device at the time.

If you first connect the dash, then close the dash manager and tries to connect the ecu, you wont find it. It wont appear in the discovery. I then need to disconnect the wifi and connect it again and then it works.

I have no clue if this is a limitation within the router or the discovery software.

When i finnaly have learned how this works its not a big issue for me. Its really really nice to have wireless connection. :)

Is a SIM card required to use this router?

No idea if it's the same, but on my ecu ( non motec , but ethernet comms ) I just use a small travel router.

This sort of thing, works perfectly, just set to AP mode. I've used a few different ones but all same sort of idea.

I have used others with a couple of LAN ports, and at one stage nearly used it with a M150/C127, but in the end went a different route.

I've gotten my car set up pretty well with a RUT955 (big brother to the 240), and the M150 connection turns out to have been the easy part.

The 955 has a USB port (which is why I'm using it instead of the 240), and now I'm working on getting all my USB boxes working wirelessly too. (Aim Dash, SmartyCam, and ECUMaster PMU). I'm using usbip which I've been able to add to the 955 with custom firmware.

Next up is to integrate a CAN gateway into the 955, so I can download CAN data as well. Also the 955 supports GPS, so I'm hoping to play with that too.

Anyway, many thanks to original pointer to the RUT240. It's given me weeks of work, lol.
