Random M150 question of the day!

I would like to test the theory as it sounds like people have done it, but I am unable to find legitimate examples…

I am currently using Aux 1 (OUT_HB5) to drive the VANOS solenoid as on on/off. What I would like to do is move to PWM to have more control over the solenoid.

What I know:
- Camshaft moves ~24 deg when activated
- Solenoid is electronically controlled and oil activated
- There’s a delay to take into account based on oil pressure

What I do not know:
- How to best setup the inlet camshaft control
- How to interpret the degree movement based on the 3D table

Shotgun approach - will come back to clarify if needed...

Thank you and I look forward to your ideas!!!!

Here is an M1 relavant webinar on Variable Cam control tuning:

Here are some older webinars on Cam control that while they were written for the Gold Box ECUs the concepts are important and completely relate to how the M1 does cam control:

Hi David,

Thank you for the information! I was actually going back through some of my notes and perusing two of your links before you sent them. :-)

Turns out I should have chosen a different setup. I'm currently working through it...

Thank you!!

Hello Group,

I'm looking for some feedback on the 'Inlet Camshaft Bank 1 Control Feed Forward - Axis Setup'.

I was playing around with the Feed Forward setting this morning and found a stable setting, but when I went to start the car after lunch that value changed until the oil reached a good temp.

The questions are:
- Can I use the 'Setup Axis' to limit the 'Feed Forward' until the oil temp reaches ~180 deg F.?
- Is there a better way to make this work?
- Skip it and use it as a switched output?

Thank you!!
