Just wondering if the OEM Subaru 7 tooth cam pulley is supported for a sync signal or do I need to machine off all except a single tooth. Engine is a NA 2009 EJ253 (with AVLS).

Hi Robert,

If there is one engine type that has a lot of modes supported in the M1 it is the EJ family.

What is the crank trigger being used? and do you have an Input Capture of the engine cranking? If you have this information I can let you know what mode will run the engine.

With this engine, as it has variable valve lift, (similar to the Honda V-Tec system), you would need to also setup the Inlet Camshaft Position function to enable the switching of the high and low lift cam profiles.

It is actually a replacement job.
The current EJ253 is fairly standard with AVLS heads and uses an OEM crank sensor and OEM cam sensor. However I believe that the cam pulley came off an earlier engine which was driven by a Motec M4, hence only one raised edge was left on the pulley. It runs fine with the M130.
The replacement engine has longer duration, higher lift cams without variability (which operated OK in this application previously). The engine has been stroked a bit but mainly built for endurance at high output. Again it is intended to use OEM crank and cam sensors.
Since from your reply it seems likely that the OEM cam pulley will be supported without machining raised edges off, I will go ahead and instal it. Hopefully the Motec endorsed tuner who works on this project will be able to set up the system when the time comes.
