M1 crank trigger wheel and hall effect sensor

Postby Moorespeed on Tue Apr 04, 2017 4:00 pm

Setting up a crank trigger wheel on my balancer to pick up engine speed. I choose to go with a 60-2 wheel, now im in search for a hall effect sensor to pick up the signal. Tooth width is 5mm with a 5mm gap between teeth. After doing some searching ive found that alot of the sensors are asking for 8-10mm gap between teeth, but the data sheets are from from 2004. Will one of the motec hall sensors work with the M1 and my trigger pattern and spacing?

Is there any reason why you want to go Hall Effect? VR sensors are much more common for the crank pickup in OEM applications, and in my experience work very well.

GM LS3/7/9 etc use a 60-2 wheel with fairly chunky teeth.

One of those sensors would probably work fine.

Not the earlier GM LS1/2/6 that use a rubbish 24x wheel though, the sensors are different for each.
