CAN inputs for boost control, pit lane limit and anti lag.

Discussion and support for MoTeC's previous generation of entry level ECUs

CAN inputs for boost control, pit lane limit and anti lag.

Postby the_bluester on Sun Jun 05, 2016 10:03 pm

Pretty simple question, I don't have an ECU to experiment with. I am deciding on the next ECU for my race car and an M84 is generally quite sophisticated enough for me.

The main questions I have are (And I presume I can by my playing around in the ECU manager software)

Can I use a CAN input to pull in a counter from my PDM to set up variable boost levels via a keypad input? Similarly, can I use a CAN input to control the pit lane speed limit function in the ecu and Can I use a similar PDM function to enable and disable anti lag?

If I can do all three of those three via a CAN input then the M84 would cover off all of the functions I need for the foreseeable future.

I'm not greatly familiar with the m84, but I do know it's biggest limitation is lower input/output count compared to the MX00 series and the limitations of the CAN. It's limited to just what Motec allows, which compared to other, isn't much.

Yeah, that is where my query is coming from, it looks in the ECU manager like you can configure the ECU to receive the messages but I am not sure is if you can then do something useful with them.

The M84 will not receive anything on CAN it can only transmit set templates out to other devices. If you want to receive CAN you will need either a Mx00 or M1 ECU.

Well that is that then.

Most of what I want to do I could bodge around generating the functions I want in the PDM, send those to the dash (C127) via CAN and use outputs of the dash to drive inputs on the ECU, but it would certainly be a runaround. More thinking to do on my part.
