M84: Analog Voltage Inputs

I’m looking at buying an M84, but have a couple of questions.

After looking at the software; it looks like we can use the “spare/not used” AV inputs for other items.

Example:

Using a Three Axis G Force Sensor

AV3 (MAF) - Lateral G
AV6 (EGT) - Longitudinal G
AV7 (Gear V) - Vertical G

We’re not allowed to change the name, but functionality should be the same regardless (0-5v)…

Would someone be willing to comment on this? I believe I know the answer, but input is welcome!

Hi Trever,

Yes they are AV inputs, so a G sensor would be fine but you wouldn't be able to change the units, channel names and it might be tricky to zero the sensors. If budget permits a CDL3 would be a better and easier option ;)

Channel names and units will have to do for now - using a cheat sheet - and I’ve been looking at way to zero the sensor(s). I think I have an OK way of doing it…

Unfortunately the CDL3 or SDL3 are out of the question for this coming season as we’re focusing on the engine, but that being said we’d like to have a bit of driver info as well.

I have another question if you’re willing to take it on. If I wanted to use User 2 as a steering position sensor; how would that work out?

Putting a steering angle sensor into an AT input is always easier to calibrate than a pressure sensor wired to an AT. So all you do is centre the steering wheel and read the value then turn the steering wheel left and right 90 degrees and read the voltage values in the calibration table for that AT input.
