M84 SR20DET

Discussion and support for MoTeC's previous generation of entry level ECUs

I have stumbled into my first problem, cold starting. Temps here ar now at about -5 in the morning, and the car, starts at my 3rd cranking try. My ET Comepensation map is done and tested, my first injection is at 60%.With the base Cranking Comp map, there is no chance to start the car below 10deg, now i have at 0deg i have 100% value instead of 50% and it starts at my 3rd turn. From what i can hear on cranking it seems like lack of fuel, but when i press the throttle 50% it starts quicker, as opose of lacking of fuel. How can i determine if it needs more or less fuel to start correctly?
Regards, Vlad.

Hi Vlad,

You can put more than 100% into the Fuel Cranking Comp table. If the engine sounds like it needs more fuel, give it to it. You can also use the Fuel First Injection function, and the Post Start table to get more fuel into the engine when cold.

Thanks Dean, at about 110% at 0deg celsius it starts pretty good :)
I've raised the boost today at 1 bar, and made a quick tune. In the log attached, i'm going from 2nd to 4th, in 2nd there's a violent afr spike, i think that it's because i had only a small amount of fuel in the car, and the pump sucked air...i don't have pressure sensor fitted yet...so i can only assume. Could anybody confirm that this is lack of fuel please. Thanks.

Oh, and another thing, i'm getting a map sensor error, witch result in some spikes of the map sensor, as you can see in the log, do you guys have any idea of why dose it happen? i'm running a 250kpa map sensor.

Solved with the Lambda by putting half of tank of gas in. The map error remains...

Are the MAP spikes that you are talking about the one that occur on the long overrun period of the logging? It looks to me like the Idle control valve (or something similar) is opening during the over run period and exposing the manifold to ambient pressure, and then, when the engine speed gets to the point that the idle control activates, it starts to pulse the idle control valve, hence the manifold pressure moving around. The engine speed then drops further and the idle control valve closes (around 3000rpm), resulting in a low manifold pressure reading as would be expected on overrun. This then stabilises around 1000rpm and the manifold pressure comes up to a typical idle value.

You have a password on the ECU file, so I can't look at it.

The error already is displayed when those spikes appear in overrun, i'm not running any idle control yet, just the throttle plate screw. There is another thing, at full boost and high rpm, the map reading starts to oscilate a bit, kind like in overrun, but it's just a 10-20kpa oscilation. The error is displayed after this happens, sometimes the ecu seems to go into a rev limiter mode when this happens. What i do not understand is why is the map going at 100kpa in overrun, and randomly starts to read good after a few second.
Dean, if i send you on PM the pasword, will this help you to take a look?

I solved the prolem. It was the Low Diag value of the sensor, and it was going to the default value, wich was 100kpa. And i think that the map error was appearing just after i was lifting the gas, and the map was going lower than the minimul diagnostic value. Thanks :)

I need a bit of help again...but this time, i see myself at the merci of the MoTeC staff...can anyone help me with a password to unlock the overrun boost on my M84? Since this ecu is on my personal car, and i'm not intending to sell it...i was thinking that someone could help me with this....I just want to get familiar with the settings and test them before i will be mapping antilag settings onto customer cars....Hope someone can help. Thanks

Hi Vlad,

Sorry, but this can't be done as our systems do not allow for these codes to be generated without an order and payment. The cost of the anti-lag enable for the M84 is fairly minimal, but I would suggest getting the Advanced functions enable if you are going to do this.
