Discussion and support for MoTeC's previous generation of entry level ECUs

There is a new M84 comms template, MoTeC M84, for use with ADL2, ADL3 and the SDL3, this is installed when you install the M84 ECU Manager. You can also use this with an SDL but the template needs to be copied to a different folder so that you can select it from the drop down list.
A new template needs to be created for use with the older ADL.

When we looked at the ECU specifications, our general thoughts went like this..

A BR2 by itself is about $559 retail, if you plug that into your M800, you get your data split up into laps.
If you add a G sensor $370+ for a single axis, you could then log lat G force, and then add a Speed sensor, you could get a track map.

Instead of this, if you buy the Garmin 5hz GPS at $295, you get Lap times in M800 data (using the new i2 insert GPS beacons feature), track mapping, race lines, and speed. It will give you all of the same information that you were getting above, at about 1/3 of the cost.

Our thougts on this were that for the level that this ECU is aimed at, there was few reasons that a customer buying one would want a Br2 instead, even if you already owned the transmitter, which is another $500 on top of the above costs.

The GPS is a cheaper, better method for your purposes.

Hi Jamie,

I see that you referenc the Garmin 5hz GPS unit as any alternative to going the Motec route. I see that Garmin offer (3) different versions of this GPS receiver. Can you be more specific on which one of the types? I assume its not hte USB version.

MoTeC Aus sell a Garmin 5hz GPS, and that is the one that I am referring to.

Garmin do sell other models which may work, but the only one I know for sure is the one that we sell from here.

regards

Jamie.

Are there any plans to add speed or gear based boost control to the M84?

Hi Racegate,

We will be making changes to the boost control functionality in later revisions of M84 Manager, release dates are yet to be confirmed.

Hi Yotamhks,

There are no plans to add those functions to the M84.

Thanks for the reply.

Anything else on the road map for the M84? Not asking for commitments on dates or official statements, just wondering what's in the pipeline from a feature perspective.

Are there any plans to allow changing the axis to the non-fixed channels? Or allowing the Dig 1-4 to be used for something other than speed?

Hi Racegate,

Non fixed channels? Not at this stage.
Dig 1-4? These can be used as switched inputs as well.

Hi Yotamhks,

Only the readme notes in the newer versions of our software will be able to tell you what changes have been made. You can appreciate it is difficult to predict what extras will be added in the future, like all our products features will be added as and when they are required. :)
