Question about relay behaviour

Postby acca on Sat Jun 08, 2019 7:54 am

Hello
I have intermitent engine cuts looking like misfires
This problem can occur suddenly and disappear during many days so it's reason is particularly hard to identify

About that problem, i was checking my ignition configuration in motec settings, if i change ignition type from 1 to 2, the general relay "clicks" and the ECU restarts.
The same thing happens if i plug osciloscope plugs to the coil inputs (ignition module outputs).
This relay provides +12v to the car when turned on.

is that a normal behaviour ? Can it indicate a faulty relay ?
Thanks
acca

Be very careful with the ign type edge, don't confuse it with the trigger type edge....The ignition edge determines how the coil is charged.

Falling - The coil charging will start when the ignition signal goes high and fire the spark when the signal goes back low (FALLS from high to low)

Rising - The coil charging will start when the ignition signal goes low and fire the spark when the signal goes back high (RISES from low to high)

You can do severe damage to the ignition system if this is set wrong. What ign coils or ign amplifiers are you using ?
