Channel Filtering

With the filtering of input pins, what is the number a measure of? As i want to filter a channel at a specific rate. ie 66.7% ave over 2 seconds. i know one of the Motec guys went through it at one stage on the forum, but i can't find it now. I know that 1 gives no filtering and 50+ is heavy, but what is the response time change between the different settings, ie 50=500mSec? (which i know is wrong).
