Ignition timing vs Boost vs Power

Postby Martin on Fri Oct 05, 2012 10:52 pm

Maybe someone will find this interesting.
Graph of base igntion map then -3deg, -6deg, -9deg, -12deg, -15deg, -18deg, -21deg
No boost control was done. Its just open loop DC with a boost reference. DC in all runs the same.

They are pretty hefty jumps in timing though.

And it's annoying the way this forum puts pictures into separate small windows.

Not sure what I see here, the lower manifold pressure line is making more power? and its the most retarded timing?

Would having EGT with those other curves complete the story?

What you are seeing....
Most timing, Most power, Least boost
Less timing = Less power = More boost (this is the case for each of the graphs, -3. -6, -9, etc....)

Yes, EGTs would have been good. Cylinder pressure with TDC reference brilliant.

Oh ok i see how egts would have been great to relate it to the boost, pressure/ tdc to power output aswell...

Make sense to me. Nice illustration, Martin.
