Hi all
Below is a link to YouTube where you can view a video we recently created:
The main reason for recording it was to show some exciting footage that we got while testing our new Video System.
We decided to test our standard ECU for water resistance. All MoTeC ECUs are produced with a water resistant coating and the video shows how we dunked an ECU under water while the engine keeps running.
However, we do not recommend that you treat any of our electronics in this manner. The coating is only thin and if there is any water left in contact with the boards, it will eventually corrode through the protection. This will then definitely lead to unreliability issues in the future. MoTeC highly recommend not running any standard ECU that has been submerged in water. Return it to MoTeC via your local dealer.
It made us realise that in installations such as PWCs, water ingress to the ECU will be almost unavoidable and therefore MoTeC has produced a Marine ECU. This ECU contains the same circuit board as a standard ECU but the case is completely filled with a polyurethane potting compound to seal the electronics inside providing a much better water resistance. All PWC ECU kits are supplied with this marine version ECU.
