3 wire sensor connections

Postby stevesingo on Fri May 21, 2010 6:03 am

I have a Bosch Knock sensor 0 261 231 047 which has 3 wires.

Pin 1 Sig +
Pin 2 Sig -
Pin 3 Shield.

Can this be connected to an SKM? I was thinking of either wiring the shield and Sig - together or connecting the Sig - to the ECU sensor 0v.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sensor Pin 1 Sig+ --> Sensor 1 input SKM Pin 6
Sensor Pin 2 Sig- --> Sensor 3 input SKM Pin 8
Sensor Shield Pin 3 --> SKM sensor shield Pin 10

DM switch must be ON for Differential mode.

Thanks.

Any Pros/Cons of 2 wire vs 3 wire sensors?

3 wire differential design is by definition less sensitive to the EMI noise.

Thanks.

So the better option then?

Hi,
I'm trying to connect a 2 wires Bosch 0-261-231-006 ks, but SKM manual is not so clear.
I was told by the seller that the 2 wires are Sig+ & Sig-, as the shield is only in the cable, so does this mean it is a differential sensor too and have to connect the 2 wires to SKM input 1 and 3, or it is just Sig+ and ground?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
You need to wire the sensor exactly as it is shown in the SKM manual Signal goes into SKM pin 6 and 0V (or Sig-) goes into SKM pin 10.
BTW I checked come 3 wires Bosch knock sensors and they all seem to be just two wires and shield sensors, didn't see any truly differential knock sensors.

Yuri,
as you can see in the manual, Pin 10 is "black/shield" and not "knock sensor ground", that's why I was unsure.
So if I wire 0v to Pion 10, where to wire cable shield?
Thanks in advance.
