Hello

On a composite roof, does the base plate need to be "earthed" to the chassis?

TIA

Hi Dom,

The MoTeC L10 GPS does not require to be earthed via the casing.

Hello Nathan

Thank you for the reply.

Do you mean, it does not require a baseplate at all or it needs a baseplate of 150x150mm but this plate does not need to be earthed to chassis?

Best regards
Dom

Hi Dom,

The purpose of the 150x150 metal plate is to improve the function of the GPS unit as you are less likely to get reflections of the gps signal off the roof, not to provide grounding.

Hello Nathan

Does the GPS antenna require a base plate on a composite roof (Yes or No)?

We use the GPS-L10 on composite bodied cars (without any additional ground plane) without issue. Just make sure it's on top of the carbon fiber not underneath it.

Hi DOm,

As David has covered, it is not required for the GPS to function, however in some applications a base plate may be require due to signal reflection.
