Single button start line position loading?

I have bought a Motec 5Hz GPS receiver to use with my dash less M800 ECU. I want to log track position and lap times fro review in i2 standard. I have seen this gizmo, which looks very useful, but assuming they would even sell it without the GPS receiver which I already have, I suspect it is possible to make something to do the same job. Is this something I can do myself using inputs on the M800 and simple hardware? Thanks.

Not sure if you have seen our webinar but in i2 you can auto insert lap beacons via GPS co-ordinates. This was a feature put into i2 Standard and i2 Pro for customers with only a 'hundred series' ECU. This will then divide your downloaded data into laps and give you your lap times but are you wanting lap times live in the car?
