Turning the power off the ABS on an MY05 STi with an SDC2

Hi

I want to fit a dash mounted switch to de-active the ABS as sometimes I compete on gravel. I can fit a switch in-line with the ABS fuse but I have no idea how this will effect the SDC2. I think it may also take away the wheel speed data and cause me some problems there.

I looked at the info in the Motec manual and it discussed removing or partially removing the ABS hardware and I wasn't sure if this was of help in my situation as I want to switch back and forth between ABS and no ABS.

Thanks
Dave

Dave,
that certainly is a challenge. If you cut the power to the ABS with a switch, yep, your wheel speeds will stop working (therefore the diff controller wont work correctly)

We showed the partial removal of the ABS. This was so that you could leave the electronics, for wheel speed transmission, without the ABS actually working any more to unlock wheels.

It is at this point where I would usually offer a solution for you, but I really cant think of a way to do what you are asking. Perhaps there is a trigger into the ABS module itself to tell it to stop working, but let it continue to transmit wheel speed data, but I dont know of any...

regards

-Jamie

Most (Bosch) ABS pumps have a 12v "wake up" wire that is a low current 12v supply to tell the ABS when It must turn on. On the ABS pumps on the E46 BMW it is pin nr4. on the E90 it is 17.

Im sure you will also find this on your ABS pump.
