SDC3 - skip/bypass/eliminate relay ?

Hi
I'm installing an SDC3 in a standalone harness, trying to simplify / eliminate a few things
the SDC3 uses pin 7 (switches internally to ground) to drive the relay for the diff itself, which when activated (pin 7 internally grounds) sends +12v down pins 13 and 14.
Is there any negative side effect to eliminating this and just powering pins 13/14 permanently (aside from the fact that the controller cant shut off the power, which should be ok since its controlling the ground anyways) ? or is keeping this a 'must' ?
thanks
