SDC - Flashing lights on dash

Postby Dave S on Tue Jul 28, 2009 3:17 pm

Hi

Finally bought a SDC for my 2004 MY05 AUD STi.

On start up the mode indicator lights on the dash flash. If I drive around the road they continue to flash and it does not feel like the controller is working - I can select locked and it works. On dirt sprints over the weekend - short stages of about 3 to 4klms the lights would at some time during the stage stop flashing and the controller would work. I wasn't conscious of the change at the time but I remember thinking that the tyres gripped up about 1/2 way into the stage (after a fast section (about 140kph)) so I assume this is when the controller started.

Each time I start the car up again the lights flash again and at the end they were not flashing.

This morning I drove on the road for about 10k's on the road up to 100kph and the lights were still flashing. I ran the thumb wheel through to locked then back to open and the lights stopped flashing.

In the monitor channels section it gives a fault code of 8 for Output Driver Failure and a diagnostic flag of 16 for Steering Angle Sensor not present on vehicle CAN bus. I haven't checked the channels after the lights stop flashing to see if there are error codes.

My car doesn't have a steering sensor so that part would sense.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I have done wrong or how to fix it.

Thanks
Dave

The Diagnostic Flag for the steering sensor will not cause the lights to flash but the Fault Flag for the Output Driver Failure will.
It is possible that there is a problem with the setup or the wiring. Check that ytou have the default settings in the Output Setup of your configuration, they should be:
Full Lock Current: 5.0A
Min Pulse Width: 80 uS
Max Pulse Width: 800 uS
Output Current Protection: 11A
Also check that the wiring to the solenoid hasn't been damaged.

Hi Ross

The program I am running has

Full Lock Current: 6.5A
Min Pulse Width: 80 uS
Max Pulse Width: 800 uS
Output Current Protection: 7.5A

and the default for the SDC2 is

Full Lock Current: 5.0A
Min Pulse Width: 80 uS
Max Pulse Width: 800 uS
Output Current Protection: 7A

I will try the settings when I get the car back tomorrow, just to confirm the Output Current Protection should be 11A not 7A.

Thanks for your help

11A is the correct default.

Thanks Ross

I have loaded the output configurations you gave me and it still flashes. I did run a program to test the maps work and they do.

The program doesn't seem to lock as hard as the factory program - although it has been a couple of years since I drove it in lock as a test.

I'll check the wiring this week end.

Hi

Checked all the wiring and they tell me it's all Ok.

I've tried a few different maps and set ups but it still behaves the same way. Flashes then if I drive it for a short distance and scroll through the settings it stops flashing and starts working but does it work properly ?

I think it would be a good idea to return toe SDC to your dealer so that it can be sent to us for testing. This is an unusual problem.
