Channel does not exist in DashManager

Postby Robin Poenisch on Tue Aug 05, 2008 9:38 pm

Hi everybody,

i have an issue with some channels that exist on my notebook in DashManager 4.2 but not on other notebooks with 4.2.
on my notebook there are some other versions installed (4.1; 4.4; 4.5) and the other notebooks have only 4.2 installed.

when i create a config for ADL2 with 4.2 and send it to the dash everything works fine. but if someone else wants to download the config or logged data with the other notebook, there are sometimes channels that don't work: "Channel does not exist".

For example: i have in DM 4.2 "GP Press 1 (Very Lge)", but on the other notebook in DM 4.2 the "Very Lge" channels don't exist.

How can i fix this? I need all the different versions on my notebook...

Thanks
Robin

Hi Robin

The inbuilt channels in Dash Manager all come from a Master Channel file that is sometimes updated with newer versions of the software, to add extra channels to the list. Any new versions of this file overwrite the previous version, so it sounds like this is what you are seeing. When you installed both DM4.4 and then DM4.5, they installed new Master Channel files that overwrote the one installed with DM4.2. This file is then used by all versions of Dash Manager you have on your computer, including DM4.2. Therefore you are able to add channels from this list to configurations in DM4.2, but anyone who retrieves the configuration with only DM4.2 on their computer will not be able to see these new channels as they have an older version of the Master Channel file.

The solution to your problem is either to install DM4.5 on all computers (which we would recommend to ensure you stay up to date with all new features and fixes), or copy the file "master.chl" from your computer to all other computers, so that everyone is operating with the same level of Master Channel list. This file can be found in the folder C:\Program Files\MoTeC\Channels

Thanks! I'll try to distribute the channel file to the other computers. Unfortunately i can't install DM 4.5 on these computers, because the software needs to have something like an internal software-certification in our company. and we did it some time ago only with 4.2.
